The Planning and Development Department performs the permitting and inspections functions of the City and ensures quality construction and compliance with Building and Zoning Codes for the safety and protection of Clarkston's residents and businesses.

The mission of the Community Development Department is to promote the general health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of DeKalb County through quality and excellence in all aspects of permitting, review, and inspection practices.
The Community Development Department is tasked with the issuance of permits, building plan review and inspections for compliance to ordinances, technical codes and accepted industry practices. The department is also responsible for implementing the environmental compliance and plan review provision of the DeKalb County Unified Land Development Code, as well maintaining erosion control standards set forth by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission.
The Community Development Department’s area of jurisdiction includes all of unincorporated DeKalb County. Please note that each incorporated City within DeKalb County has their own respective building department; please see below for links to their websites:

Permitting Service Fees
All approved credit card refunds will be issued for the amount of the original purchase only. Credit card processing fees are non-refundable and will not be included in the refund amount, as these fees are retained by the third-party payment processor.
